The Rapids City Iowa City Council, in a display of
naked patriotism, voted to show their solidarity with other small towns suffering from the effects of the current recession by simultaneously increasing the local sales tax while parading in their underwear through the city's business district.
A teary eyed City Council President Buster "Frogcheeks" Bennett (first person on right in photo) said "we wanted to make a statement... make a difference... but all we could think of was dropping our pants." The offices of Iowa Governor Chet Culver could not be reached for comment as their phones had been disconnected for non-payment of bills.
